City life is hectic. Every day, we rush from point A to point B without even pausing to look up. When did you last enjoy a slow walk, relishing every step and looking at every brick, noticing what lies beneath the city’s glitzy exterior?

Local art tech pioneers, Rooftop Productions, take you on a journey through Tsuen Wan with their app specifically devised for the district—Hong Kong’s first satellite town—traversing both time and space. Audio guides dig into fascinating details about urban development, retelling stories of the past. Dancers appear in the app as virtual guides, leading you to unexpected corners.

Ivor Houlker

Ivor Houlker is a multidisciplinary theatre artist, who works internationally as a director, actor, musician, and programmer. He specialises in hybrid forms involving technology, as well as physical theatre and site-specific performances. His work often involves live music, chorus, multimedia projection, sound installation, and audience interaction. Since 2014 his work has incorporated programming and developing original apps to support interactive work. Recent works also include original real-time online platforms and to enable new forms of live interaction. Ivor is a founder and artistic director of Rooftop Productions in Hong Kong.

Michelle Li Yuen Jing is the founder and co-artistic director of Rooftop Productions, and the recipient of the Award for Young Artist (Drama) at the 16th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Performance Creation from Goldsmiths, University of London, and holds a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in English Studies from the University of Hong Kong.

Lau Hiu Kong, Lawrence is a composer, sound artist based in Hong Kong. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in composition and electronic music and Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Media at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Hong Kong City University. His work integrates music composition, live musical performance, audiovisual art, installation, and various possible expressions.

Lokin is a professional dancer ,teacher and choreographer, who graduated from the University of Hong Kong. He is a member of Spark and Asylum crew. He has over 19 years of dance experience and won many battle championships, as well as being a judge of many dance events. He has travelled to various countries to exchange and study, including Europe, New York, Japan and South Korea. He is one of the organisers of many dance events in Hong Kong. Not only has he participated in various concerts, but also has lots of experience in theatre creation.

Fiona Zhou

Fiona Zhou is a Chinese-born freelance dance artist. In 2014, she gained her Master of Fine Arts in Dance degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in choreography. Same year of her graduation, as a performer, she was involved in Korean choreographer Megan Ho’s production The Room and the Lovers. She presented her first full-length dance solo work Wall in 2015. Then she was invited to participate in the 2015 i- Dance Festival HK. She choreographed and performed her site work Imprint. Her solo work Wall was invited to participate in Beijing Dance Festival programme 3 in 2016.

Cheung Tsz Kwan

Cheung Tsz Kwan, born in 1990, is a popping and contemporary dancer in Hong Kong. She obtained a Diploma in Dance in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2014 after she graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012. She has been dancing since then and will keep dancing in the future.
