Biography
Elaine K. M. Chan is a distinguished film and cultural scholar who holds a PhD from the University of Kent, UK. She currently serves as a lecturer at the Hong Kong Baptist University’s Academy of Film, where she teaches film theory, history, and aesthetics at the master’s level. Dr. Chan’s scholarly contributions include the seminal monograph 'Hong Kong Dark Cinema: Film Noir, Reconceptions, and Reflexivity' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). The Chinese edition, '遇上黑色電影:香港電影的逆向思維', was honored with the Recommendation Award at the 15th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature. She is also the author of 'The Southern School of Cantonese Opera: A Study of the Classical Script Zhan Er Wang.' Since 2015, Dr. Chan has served as an examiner for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, specializing in both Film and Media Arts and Arts Criticism. Her incisive cultural and film criticism has been widely published across prominent platforms including Master Insight, Ta Kung Pao, Hong Kong Economic Journal, Ming Pao, and Film Bi-Weekly.
